Instructions for Reapplicants

How to reapply if it’s less than 2 years since you last applied   

If you’re reapplying within two years of your original approval to take the Exam (approval is based on the date of the first letter saying you were approved for a specific exam; i.e.: Spring or Fall of that year), the process to reapply is simple.  When you decide you’re ready, just complete the Reapplication Request stating you want to take the Exam.  Email, mail, or fax it to us.  This tells us to add you to the testing schedule.  There is a non-refundable Reapplication Fee of $75.00 for processing.  This fee can be paid by check, money order in U.S. funds, or credit card online using your ABIH ID at MY ACCOUNT.  If you want to take the Spring Exam, we’ll need everything by February 1.  If you’re planning to take the Fall Examination, we need the request and fee by August 1.

How to reapply if you have to cancel the Exam, but know when you want to take it

If you have to cancel your appointment to take the Exam, let us know about your change in plans and also have us approve you for a future Exam.  Be sure to notify Prometric Testing of your change in plans at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled appointment time.  Assuming it’s been within two years of your original or subsequent approval to take the Exam (approval is based on the date of the first letter saying you were approved for a specific exam; i.e.: Spring or Fall of that year), just complete the Cancel Request form stating you’re canceling your Exam appointment and that you want be approved to take the Exam during a future session.  Email, mail, or fax the completed form to us.    There is a non-refundable Reapplication Fee (payable by check, money order in U.S. funds, or credit card) of $75.00 for processing.  This fee can be paid by check, money order in U.S. funds, or credit card online using your last name and your ABIH ID at MY ACCOUNT.  If you want to take the Spring Exam, we’ll need everything by February 1.  If you’re planning to take the Fall Exam, we need your request and fee by August 1.

How to reapply if it’s more than 2 years since you last applied   

If you are reapplying more than two years since your original/subsequent approval (approval is based on the date of the first letter saying you were approved for a specific exam; i.e.: Spring or Fall of that year or since you lasted updated your experience profile), you will need to update your IH work experience and meet all current eligibility requirements.   Please submit the following information to us:

How to reapply if your file has been destroyed

If you are reapplying after your application was inactive for more than 3 years and it was destroyed, you must establish a new application file.  The procedure to follow depends on whether you were previously approved for the exam or not.

If you were previously approved by ABIH to take the CIH exam, you will need to update your IH work experience and meet all current eligibility requirements.  Please submit the following information to us:

If you were not previously approved by ABIH to take the CIH exam, you will need to follow all the requirements for a new applicant.  Be sure to note on your application form that you had previously applied to ABIH.
