"I am probably one of a very few number of people that can say that everything I studied in college I actually use. Being an industrial hygienist has allowed me to say that. From chemistry, math and physics to sociology and psychology, I have applied it all.

Since obtaining the credential of Certified Industrial Hygienist, I have always considered its maintenance to be my employment insurance. during this recent economic downturn, I, as many others, was provided a separation package from my employer in January 2011. It provided for six months of pay and benefits while I searched for another job. Like everyone else, I wondered if I would be able to find as good a paying job as what I had.

I made my job search a full-time job. But I was aware of the stories where job searchers felt lucky to get one interview out of every 100 applications. My experience would be quite different.

Over the next 5 months I applied to 180 jobs. To my surprise, I did not manage just a couple of interviews, I got 60. Invariably, it was due to my credential: CIH.

At the end of my search, I not only found a great job, but a better paying job. And, over the past two years, I have been given increasing responsibilities that validated the knowledge and experience behind that credential which had given confidence to my current employer to hire me.

So, if you ask me if having a CIH has value, my answer is a resounding yes! "
