Tom Delaney, CIH

"When I was first hired with company X as a Safety Manager company X had 3 other Safety Managers who all earned a significantly higher salary than myself even though are job duties were the same. 5 years later I earned my CIH and was promoted to Corporate Health and Safety Division Manager with 5 Safety Managers and 1 Health and Safety Administrator reporting directly to me. My salary increased by approximately 50% and my certification was used to meet contract requirements numerous times as well as write several Alternative Asbestos Removal Plans saving the company fromhiring a third party CIH and increasing project costs. In addition my Certification allowed me to work with OSHA as a Special Government Employee where I assisted in OSHA VPP audits and I was able to learn and apply H&S program elements different than what was currently being used at Company X to Company X programs which helped Company X achieve VPP Star status in Region V and also achieve MNSTAR status on a company X project located in MN. Serving as a SGE allowed Company X a very good opportunity to develop a uniquely favorable relationship with OSHA and other regulatory agencies. My certification also brought value to Company X during health related litigation processes. After becoming physically disabled my CIH maintained it's value as I was successful in mentoring a young IH from Company X who is now a CIH, and I'm currently mentoring my nephew in becoming a CIH. "
