The Certified Industrial Hygienist program of the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) has been accredited by:
- American National Standards Institute (ANSI)
- Council of Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards (CESB).
ABIH is also a recognized certification board by the International Occupational Hygiene Association (IOHA).

The ANSI accreditation was awarded under the ANSI standard ISO/IEC 17024 - Conformity assessment - General requirements for bodies operating certification of persons and was effective on March 13, 2009. The ANSI accreditation is good for a 5-year period and ABIH will be subject to ongoing demonstration of its continuous improvement under the ISO/IEC 17024 standard.

CESB is an independent, voluntary membership body created for its member organizations who recognize, through specialty certification, the expertise of individuals practicing in engineering and related fields. Programs are accredited by CESB in one of four categories. The categories are based on the prerequisites candidates for certification must possess and CESB Accreditation Guidelines. ABIH has held the CESB accreditation since 1999.

Representing the global community of occupational hygienists, IOHA is an association of occupational hygiene organizations from across the world, all of which are dedicated to the discipline and application of the inherent principles of occupational hygiene. ABIH’s certification scheme has been recognized by IOHA since 2003.
