CM Database Search Help

  • The CM database search is a simple text search of our course approval database. It takes the text as you entered it in the box(es) and compares fields in our database to that text. If you keep the "containing text" button selected (in title or sponsor), or in other fields (like city or state), it looks for that string of letters at the beginning, middle or end of the field (e.g. search for "res" will find respirator, stress, and exposures). If you choose the "exact match" button, it will find courses or sponsors with that EXACT entry in the database (e.g. "respiratory" will not find "respiratory protection" as it has the other word/letters.)

  • If you enter information in several fields, it will show courses matching ONLY ALL the fields requested, so this can serve to narrow a search (e.g. using text in the sponsor field, title field, and narrowing a date selection to a smaller or single date).

  • Try a unique word in the title or sponsor (rocky, sacramento, etc.) or abbreviations for some organizations (AIHA). This search works on strings of letters and does not search for individual words (e.g., "AIHA Sacramento" will not match "AIHA-Sacramento" - dash in between words instead of a space). Unless you are very sure of finding a full name in the database, don't try a long complex series of words (e.g. Occupational Safety and Health Administration; try "OSHA" instead.).

  • If you know the day (or first day of longer courses) of a course, use that instead of a date range to narrow a search. If you are not sure when a course was offered, you can use a date span to expand the search. However, courses with multiple offerings in a year do not have all their dates listed in the database. They are noted separately, and if you believe the course was given multiple times, select that checkbox and make sure the single date or year span covers the year when the course was offered.

  • You may choose to sort the output to more easily find your information.

  • An entry in the approval number field will search for that exact approval number only and it does not use any of the other fields.
  • To find a distance learning or web course, select that in the subject dropdown box or be sure to select "multiple offering courses" since most distance learning and web courses are not given on one specific date. These will NOT NORMALLY show up in the normal date-span searches. Or, see the distance learning list on our web site.
  • The AIHCE receives .5 IH CM point per .5 day, 4.5 IH CM points for attendance at the entire conference. The PDCs are awarded CM points separately. The AIHCE and PDCs do not require a CM approval number.
